Part-Time Farmers Market Manager

West Chester Township has an immediate need to fill a Farmers Market Manager position. The Farmers Market Manager is part of West Chester Township’s Public Information and Engagement department.

The Farmers Market Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and day-to-day operations of the West Chester Market. The market is held every Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., from May through October.  The Farmers Market Manager ensures the market runs smoothly, supports local farmers and vendors, and creates a welcoming experience for visitors. The Manager serves as the primary point of contact for vendors and customers, and serves as a liaison for community partners and Township staff.

The Farmers Market Manager will also serve on the West Chester Market Committee, which meets two to three times per year and is comprised of two township representatives, as well as representatives from the following organizations: local vendors, citizen/local food advocate, MidPointe Library, and Travel Butler County. The committee selects vendors, partners with local agencies to program market events, and promotes the market to the wider community.

This is a part-time position, averaging 10-15 hours per week. Attendance at the market each week is mandatory. The manager helps set up and take down the market, ensuring vendors are on-site and ready to go by 8:45 a.m.  Typical Saturday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Additional hours are flexible outside of Saturdays. While more hours are anticipated during peak market season, some hours are anticipated in the fall/winter for market events at the Muhlhauser Barn and for planning and reporting tasks. The pay for this position starts at $21.46.

Essential Functions:
  • Plan, organize, and manage weekly market operations.
  • Update the market map each week to accommodate special events, vendor absences, part-time vendor attendance, etc.
  • Coordinate site logistics (set-up, signage, traffic flow, and clean-up).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors and customers, and serves as a liaison for community partners and Township staff.
  • Engage with customers to create a friendly, inclusive, and vibrant atmosphere.
  • Recruit, onboard, and support vendors with the help of the Market Committee
  • Ensure vendors maintain compliance with market rules & health/safety regulations.
  • Resolve conflicts or issues that arise with professionalism and fairness.
  • Promote the market through social media and community outreach.
  • Encourage vendor cross-promotion to drive attendance.
  • Partner with community organizations to enhance programming (music, kids’ activities, cooking demos, etc.)
  • Track vendor attendance, estimate customer attendance, and provide monthly reports to the Township.
  • Provide end-of-season reports and make recommendations for improvements.

Qualifications:
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Competent at managing and organizing multiple tasks.
  • Comfortable using email, word processing, spreadsheets, and social media software.
  • Passion for local food, community building, and supporting small businesses.
  • Experience with event management, community programming, or farmers' markets preferred.
