West Chester Township has an immediate need to fill a Public Information Coordinator position. The Public Information Coordinator is part of West Chester Township’s Public Information and Engagement department.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Director, the Public Information & Engagement Coordinator supports the township’s public information and engagement efforts through creating and designing shareable content for citizens and businesses in the community and beyond. This individual promotes and supports local events, programs, and services offered by the Township with the goal of growing reach and engagement, improving awareness, and promoting a positive brand identity. The successful candidate will understand how to find stories, create a compelling narrative, and repurpose content for multiple mediums and distribution channels.

Distribution tools and channels include the township website, social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, X, YouTube, etc.), electronic newsletter, online blog/newsroom, traditional media outlets (press releases), printed collateral, and community events. This position will also collaborate with township administration and HR on internal communication matters, helping to post content to the employee intranet and providing support for other internal communication efforts.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop compelling, shareable content related to all aspects of the township services and departments
  • Collaborate regularly with all township disciplines (police, fire, services, etc.) to develop and share content representing these departments
  • Educate and inform the community of events and initiatives, using the appropriate platforms to reach the intended target audience
  • Research, create, and manage content to be shared on social media on a daily basis; engaging citizens to build an engaged online community across all channels 
  • Serve as media liaison in absence of department Director, including during potential crises
  • Analyze and understand complex issues so they can be presented in an understandable manner to a broader audience
  • Exercise sound reason and good judgment when interacting with the media and with citizens to promote a positive brand image with the community
  • Collaborate with West Chester Television team members to tell stories through video on our public access broadcast channels
  • Make connections and work with outside agencies and partners to create opportunities for shared communications
  • Respond to questions, concerns, and requests for service from the public by providing answers, solutions, and processes or by connecting parties with the right information
  • Support logistics, planning, and execution of various community events
  • Compile monthly and year-end marketing reports and analytics
  • Implement marketing tools and brand standards, and style guidelines

Working Conditions:
Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. This position may require additional hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on business/emergency needs. Work is typically performed in an indoor office setting, but will sometimes involve work outdoors in all weather and environments for community events and story-telling needs.

The starting pay range is $27.86-$32.50 per hour based on experience.

Required qualifications include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related discipline
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Advanced education, management certifications, or extensive experience in the field may substitute for education/experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality
  • Proficiency with website content management systems (CMS), social media content management and analytics, email marketing software, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Understanding of media operations or public relations
  • Valid Driver’s License and Reasonable Insurability

Preferred qualifications include:
  • Proficiency with graphic design and video editing software
  • Experience with photo/video equipment
  • 5-7 years of related experience

Position is open until filled, with first review beginning 4/14/2025.  Interviews are targeted to begin the week of 4/21/2025.
